Hand Carved Sarangi Violin
The traditional Nepali sarangi is a beautifully carved string instrument, often featuring the deity Lord Ganesh, symbolizing wisdom and auspiciousness. Made from a single piece of wood, it has a fretless neck and a hollow, double-chambered body. Historically, its three or four strings were crafted from sheep intestine, but modern versions use nylon or steel strings. The bow, once strung with horse tail-hair, now typically uses nylon. The sarangi’s size varies based on player preference, making it a versatile and culturally rich instrument.
