Sarangi Guitar
The Nepali Sarangi is a traditional folk instrument made from a single piece of wood, featuring a neck and a hollow, double-chambered body. It typically has three or four strings, traditionally made from sheep intestine but now often replaced with materials like nylon or steel. The instrument is played with a bow, originally strung with horse tail-hair but now commonly using nylon. Sarangis are integral to Nepali folk music, often played by Gaine singers who accompany themselves or perform solo. This particular Sarangi includes a special carving of Lord Ganesh, symbolizing wisdom, learning, and the removal of obstacles, considered auspicious in Nepali culture. Skilled artisans across Nepal craft these instruments, ensuring quality and tradition in their production.
